“The Rock Program” – Guitar & Bass Lessons

Guitar & Bass Lessons are offered in the “Rock Studio” by teachers who are professional gigging musicians, have extensive teaching experience and who are enthusiastic and committed to teaching students of all ages and levels of experience.

The Rock Studio is professionally equipped with guitars, bass, drums, audio, computer equipment and guitar accessories to offer the guitar student access to a ‘real band’ environment.  Often, teachers will accompany students on another guitar, bass or drums during class,  to provide a real instinctive, hands-on approach to learning guitar and bass.

Guitar, Bass and Drum Lessons are offered as part of Bel Canto School of Music’s exclusive “Rock Program”.  Rock Program Director Sam Dufour is an accomplished professional musician, Juno-nominee, music producer and teacher.

The Bel Canto Rock Program introduces students to the blend of instruments, styles and techniques associated with popular rock, folk, country, and blues music. Students will also have the rare opportunity to learn the basics of home studio recording, live music reproduction, music theory and songwriting skills alongside the private and focused study of a particular instrument.  The program and studio environment blends fun in learning with the opportunity to pursue formal qualifications and fun performance opportunities.

Beginners to advanced guitarists have the choice of studying with one of our teachers in a course of study determined by previous experience, interests and goals.  Typical courses of study would be:

* Royal Academy of Guitarists program (founded by Paul McCartney), with the opportunity to receive formalized education in contemporary guitar techniques
* Guitar tablature and music theory for guitarists
* Contemporary studies, including radio hits, pop, blues and rock standards
* Chord-based playing
* Lead and/or rhythm guitar work

All types of lessons include warm-ups, technical studies, scales, rhythm
exercises, ear training, sight-reading of music, music theory and of course the
learning of songs, chosen mutually by the teacher and student as appropriate
to the student’s level, course of study and age.
